Prioritise Tasks at The Hotel Instructions

Split the group into two teams.

Explain that you are going to play a game that focuses on how they prioritise tasks in order to get the best return for the time they invest. The objective of the game is for the delegates to agree on how they will spend that most precious of resources – time!

Explain the brief, and then hand each team a copy:

  • You run a small, successful 30-bedroom hotel in central Leeds
  • The hotel is full tonight, and you are off on a two-week holiday at 5.30 p.m. Your flight is at 7.30 p.m. and you are determined to be on that plane, confident that everything will be alright in your absence
  • It is Sunday the 21st of May at 10.20 a.m. and you have just finished breakfast service. You have several tasks to complete today, but you don’t know how you can fit everything in. Your partner is busy with their own work and packing, etc., so they can’t help you. You have a Bar Manager who will start work at 11.30 a.m.
  • Your Administration Manager and the Chef are already at work, but you are aware that they are both very busy today and you are reluctant to add to their workload.
  • The Administration Manager is doing some important developmental work on the hotel’s website, the Chef and the Bar Manager are both working on a stock-take
  • In your group, use the headers provided to develop a plan to achieve the tasks on the cards provided and ensure that you are ready for your taxi to Manchester Airport at 5.30 p.m.

Hand the teams the task statements and header forms.

You have ten minutes to come up with your answers.
