Party People – Behaviour in Meetings Training Game

£0.00

Everyone has experienced meetings where participants have been challenging to manage. In the heat of the moment, it can be tough to navigate challenging behaviour in meetings. ‘Party People’ is a quick game that enables learners to practice and build confidence in a safe environment.

Description

Party People - Behaviour in Meetings Objectives

Handing disruptive behaviour in meetings can be a challenge. Knowing how to respond and manage challenging behaviours can be stressful when you are in the moment. This training game enables learners to practise dealing with a range of challenging behaviours, from within a safe environment. By changing the context within which they think and experience challenging behaviours, delegates will learn how to respond, to each behaviour, in a successful and controlled manner.

Party People - Behaviour in Meetings Instructions

One of the problems with running meetings is that it is challenging to give people practice in handling disruptive behaviour.

One method of dealing with this is to practice with a separate exercise.

Identify a delegate who wants to practice handling disruptive behaviour. Ask the delegate to think about the specific behaviour they want to practice (e.g., dominance, interrupting, quibbling), and get them to pretend that they are preparing to host a party.

The guests at the party will represent the disruptive behaviours in their ‘characters’.

The remaining delegates will play the roles of the party guests. Ask them to ‘ham’ it up as much or as little as they want (the exercise works better if you have some being extreme and others being more subtle).

The guests should join the party at two-minute intervals.

When the host has named the character (e.g., ‘You are Chris Quibbler’) and has dealt with the problem, the identified role should sit down. The exercise goes on until all the characters have been identified or when the trainer feels that the exercise has gone on long enough.
